About the project With the year 2007 Romania will experience an incredible change. Out of the solitude to a member of the European Union and also with Sibiu being one of the two European Cultural Capitals in 2007, a magnificent opportunity to share with the world what Romania has to offer. As the founder of European House of Arts Network I take pride in saying we are a cultural partner for Sibiu. As I wrote the project 'The Art of Culture' which was immediately accepted by the Associatia 2007 and the Ministry of Culture in Bucharest and placed in the category 'Patrimony', I was aware of the coming chance for Romania to show its many cultural colours, its diversity and with that the resources still undiscovered, which is why mainly Romanian artists have been chosen for the project. What is Romanian Art? What is Romanian Culture? When you walk into an artist's studio what do you expect? And the older the artist is, well, the more the millenary, chalky substances you will find. Extractions of life's secrets, fetishes of a daily world from all walks of life and from all periods of time, present, past and some gone. Colors and fragmented forms hovering in the infinity of space and time creating a harmony of absurdity, far away from the norm, and yetâŚ..all become part of a silent and personal diary hiding the most secret and intense pages before our very eyes, if only we can understand! For a very short while from the 3rd August to 2nd September 2007 the artists participating will allow the multi-national visitors to Sibiu to look behind the veil of silence and protection that artists need to reach the deep and cavernous beauty of the unspoken philosophy they feed on. The artists chosen are in the majority a younger team. In the transition of a country releasing itself from past shadows of communism and heading toward an uncertain democratic goal it is the younger ones who brave the waves of the old iron fist still of red ablaze on the one side and the sometimes over-demanding 'Besser Wessies' with their 'freedom' on the other. Romania is at its best Romania! Its present and future can only be molded from the inside by the Romanians themselves, and the young Romanian artists can help with their visions of the diary that only a Romanian can know about. And this is why the project The Art of Culture dedicates itself, or should I say has been formed by the testimonial of the participating artists from different regions of Romania.
